Contact enquiries

The contact form asks for your name, email address, reason for contact, message, and consent to use those details to respond. A plain-text copy is sent to Ian by email.

Successful submissions and delivery failures are stored for administrative follow-up. They are normally retained for up to 90 days, then removed by a scheduled retention process. Ian can delete them earlier through the restricted administration area.

The site does not store your raw IP address with the enquiry. It stores a secret-keyed, one-way hash of the canonicalised address to enforce rate limits. Malformed or missing addresses share a fail-safe rate-limit identity.

Operational logs

Application logs record operational events such as delivery failures without including complete contact messages, email addresses, or IP hashes. Web-server and reverse-proxy logs may record request metadata such as the requested path, time, response status, browser information, and source address for security and diagnosis. Their retention is managed as part of the hosting service.

Analytics and tracking

This site uses Ian’s self-hosted, cookieless Matomo service to understand aggregate page views and outbound-link activity. Tracking cookies, user identifiers, advertising features, cross-domain tracking, and URL query strings are not used. The Matomo service anonymises visitor IP addresses and removes raw visitor data according to its configured retention schedule.

The site respects browser Do Not Track settings by not loading Matomo when that preference is active.

Matomo is loaded asynchronously and is not required to view or navigate the site.

The site does not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Pinterest conversion tags, advertising trackers, or third-party tracking pixels.

Cookies

The public contact form uses a first-party CSRF security cookie to protect submissions. Administrative sign-in uses first-party session and CSRF cookies. The site does not set analytics or advertising cookies.

External content and sharing

The site does not embed social-media widgets or remote tracking content. External projects and social services are linked with ordinary links. Simply viewing a page does not send information to those services; following an external link places your visit under that service’s own privacy practices.

Where Ian has enabled a “Save to Pinterest” link for a photograph, activating it opens Pinterest with the set’s canonical address, a public derivative image address, and a description. Those details are sent to Pinterest only when you follow the link; the site does not load Pinterest scripts, pixels, or conversion tracking.

Any social post prepared from this site is separate from the public reading experience and links visitors back to Just Ian. The site does not require a social account and does not load social-platform scripts to display photographs.

Private editorial assistance

Optional administrator-only tools can send metadata-stripped derivative photographs and existing editorial context to a configured artificial-intelligence provider for private title, introduction, caption, controlled-keyword, sequence, lead-photograph and exclusion suggestions. They are disabled by default, never send protected originals or GPS metadata, and do not run when a visitor views the site. Suggestions are not published or applied automatically.

Privacy requests

To ask about information submitted through this site, or request correction or early deletion, contact Ian. Include enough information to identify the enquiry without placing additional sensitive information in the message.
